Juice For Added Years

In todays society there are many of us who cannot wake up unless we have our morning Starbucks. How about trading that coffee in for a healthy dose of fresh juice?

Researchers at Vanderbilt University found that adults who drank 3 or more servings of fruit and vegetable juices a week had a 76% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease than those who drank juice less than once a week. There is an abundance of studies that show the benefits of fruits and vegetables, but this study published in September 2006 issue of the American Journal of Medicine, focuses on a group of antioxidants called polyphenols as a way of fighting off Alzheimers.

Qi Dai,MD, PhD, an assistant professor of medicine at Vanderbilt says "Animal studies and cell culture studies confirmed that some polyphenols from juices showed a stronger neuroprotective effect than antioxidant vitamins."

What am I saying?

I am not suggesting to replace your supplement intake but to incorporate more fresh and nutrient dense fruits and vegetables.

My recommendation is to buy a juicer that can blend your freshest fruits and vegetables while conserving all the enzymes and nutrients. Before buying a juicer it is important to do your homework and there are many criteria that must be met before I purchase a juicer.
1. Easy to clean
2. Power (Must have at least 1/4 horsepower or more)
3. Longevity (look for juicers that have warranties that last up to at least a year)
4. Yield or ounces of juice per pound of produce (Want to use only 3 oranges for a glass of OJ not
Check out Juicing Recipes blog to see healthy recipes and discussions on brands of juicers.

Happy Juicer hunting and enjoy the switch from coffee to juice!
