Where can you grow?

Here is the course for the San Francisco Marathon:

Part 1

Part 2

In 1 week from today I will be posting my official San Francisco Marathon time. I know many of you are thinking "he's crazy", "I could never do a marathon", "thats so bad for your body", or "my body is not meant for running that far". STOP RIGHT NOW! Remove that stinking thinking and realize that if Oprah can do a marathon then there is no reason you cannot. I am not trying to be rude but Oprah is not in the best shape and her body does not exude athleticism.

Every race I run, whether its a 5K, 10K, or marathon there are always people out there who definitely do not look the part but kudos to them for being there. I love to see men and women get outside of their comfort zone and take on new challenges. Maybe they are doing it for charity, for a loved one, or in memory of a friend. They are out on the course giving 110% and I have the upmost respect for someone like that.

What race can you do to get outside of your comfort zone? What limits are you placing on yourself not only in your exercise but in your life? I once again challenge you to grow to a new level and register for a road race within the next 8 weeks. It can be a 5K or it can be a marathon but as long as your out there performing then my respect for you grows exponentially.

Check out Ryan's blog, where he talks about his workouts, races, and challenges he has faced through his career.

good post and true that... one thing i neede to do quickly when I began registering for races is reconsider what i perceived to be a runner's physique... often i would be passed by those whom i could not believe were faster than i, but truth is athleticism comes in many different shapes and sizes. also, at most runs there are only a small percentage who are there with the potential to "win" if you limit your definition of "winning" to coming in first... anyone who finished, and has worked there hardest or enjoyed themselves, is in some a a "winner"... as pandering as it sounds... its true!
