Be Healthy When Stress Hits

I heard a news story recently about the economy and while most people understand this, I think its important to remind everyone that our health and economic well-being are entwined more closely than many of us may like to consciously consider.

The news story was about an interview with two psychologists, and the question of interest was, “Are they seeing a change in their practices as a result of the current economic slowdown? The answer-YES!

People are looking for the quick fix---just the same approach that got the country into its current financial mess. It has recently been reported that sales of antidepressants are up…WAY UP. Sales of Cymbalta have risen 26%, Effexor sales are up 8%, and Lexapro is up 6%. This is the rub. Surveys of families confirm that during economic slowdowns, traditional approaches to dealing with stress are among the first things to get eliminated from the family budget. That means: gym memberships, workouts, family vacations, healthy eating, etc.

This is exactly the opposite of what we should all be doing. During tough economic times, it may be even more important to find ways to exercise and eat right. These are proven to be some of the best mechanisms the human body has for dealing with stress.

Chiropractic too. We can help you improve the quality of your life, be happier and more productive. Those are good things at any time yet even more important at times like these.
