Over the past 2 weeks we have been listing the 5 components to a misaligned spine and how detrimental it can be to somones health. The first week we talked about abnormal motion and how when the spine loses its proper alignment it does not have its full range of motion. Last week we talked about how a misaligned spine can rub, irritate, pinch, or choke a delicate nerve. This pressure causes interference to the the nervous system.
This week we will discuss the 3rd component to a misaligned spine which is abnormal muscle function. When the spine misaligns the muscles supporting it can weaken, become tight and then go into spasm. We commonly find this in people who have desk jobs and are constantly in front of their computer. They have their head forward so much that they weaken their neck muscles and tighten their back muscles. Unfortunately, scar tisssue and adhesions penetrate these malfunctioning muscles, changing their elasticity.
EXAMPLE: If you ever went to camp and played tug war then you are aware that there is always a strong team and a weak team. If the strong team constantly pulls the rope then eventually the other side will lose. The spasmodic or overdevloped muscles on one side of our spine can cause individual spinal bones to twist and lose their proper function.
This is why at Cohen Family Wellness we will not only correct your misaligned spine but we will work together in strengthing your spinal muscles. This will be done on site in our multi-functional facility beginning August 2009.
