On August 3 at 5:30 AM I will be standing at the starting line preparing for the San Francisco marathon. Over the past 8 weeks I have rigorously trained my body to conquer this feat and currently there is nothing holding me back from this accomplishment. As part of my training I ran a 5K (3.1 miles) race this weekend and throughout the race I couldn't stop thinking about how much fun running is. There is nothing that stimulates my mind more then going out for a 5 mile run. At 6:30 this morning I ran 11 miles and following the run I jumped into my complexes pool. I cannot think of any better way to start a day.
Where am I going with this?
We are constantly being told how bad running is for us and how much stress it puts on our knees. As someone who has been running for over 10 years I can say that I have never had 1 injury from running. HOW? I know my body and I never take it past a point where I think I will injure myself. The point is that the benefits of running outweigh the risks. Here is an article that compares running to walking and all the benefits associated with them.
GOAL --> Set a goal to run your first 5K in 2 months. Do not try to break records but do it for yourself. If you are looking for 5k runs in your are then just type in "5k road race (City you live)". There will probably be a track club in your area that also has a calendar of each road race that year.
Good luck and keep me posted with your results.
I will post my time for the marathon on August 4.
